Wilson Pro Staff V13: Which model suits you?
"There's nothing quite like that Pro Staff feeling." This phrase has accompanied the legendary Wilson Pro Staff series for over 40 years. Since the introduction of the first Pro Staff in 1982-1983, it has been one of the most popular performance rackets ever and continues to delight players worldwide.
Precision comes first
The Pro Staff series was consistently developed for maximum precision. Therefore, the most popular models feature a higher weight and smaller head sizes. A smaller head size means a smaller sweet spot and thus more control and accuracy.
The most famous model is the Pro Staff RF97 Autograph, Roger Federer's personal racket. With an unstrung weight of 340g and a 97 square inch head size, it is one of the most demanding rackets on the market. Even Roger Federer switched from the legendary 90-inch head to a 97-inch head in 2014 to meet the demands of modern tennis.
Why a smaller racket head?
The smaller the sweet spot, the higher the control and precision. Larger racket heads, on the other hand, offer more forgiveness as well as additional power and spin potential.
The innovations of the Pro Staff V13
BRAID 45
The new arrangement of carbon and aramid fibers at a 45° angle ensures that the frame works better on ball contact. The result is an even more direct ball feel without sacrificing stability. This technology is not included in the RF97 Autograph and junior models.
String Mapping
Wilson has reduced the string spacing in the center of the string bed. This improves the feel on ball contact and further increases precision.
Ergonomic End Cap
Like the other Wilson series, the Pro Staff V13 also features the ergonomic end cap for more comfort. The RF97 Autograph remains true to the traditional end cap.
Which Pro Staff suits you?
Pro Staff RF97 Autograph
Roger Federer's signature model is aimed at tournament players at the highest level and long-time Pro Staff fans. The high weight of 340g offers maximum stability and control, but requires precise technique and strong stroke power.
Pro Staff 97
The Pro Staff 97 is the more modern and slightly more maneuverable alternative to the RF97. With 315g unstrung, it remains a performance racket for ambitious players, but offers better maneuverability and benefits from all the new V13 series technologies.
