Pickleball: More than just a sport
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis and is attracting more and more people. The sport is easy to learn, fun from the start, and suitable for almost all ages and skill levels.
▶ Discover PickleballWhat is Pickleball?
Pickleball is played on a small court, roughly the size of a badminton doubles court. To play, you need a paddle and a perforated plastic ball.
What initially looks simple quickly develops into a tactically demanding game. Placement, patience, and reaction are often more important than pure power.
What you need to get started
✓ A pickleball paddle
✓ A perforated plastic ball
✓ Sturdy shoes with good grip
✓ Comfortable and light sportswear
The history of Pickleball
Pickleball was invented in the USA in 1965. Three fathers were looking for an activity for their children and improvised with paddles, an old badminton net, and a plastic ball.
This spontaneous idea gave rise to a sport that is now growing rapidly worldwide. One reason for this is the easy entry: long rallies and exciting points develop after a short time.
Easy to learn, difficult to master
For Pickleball, you don't need a serve at 200 km/h. Tactics, ball feel, and game intelligence often get you further than brute force.
The court makes the difference
The smaller court and slower-flying ball significantly change the game. Distances are shorter, but reaction and control become even more important.
Low ball bounce
The perforated plastic ball bounces less high than a tennis ball. A low point of contact and good positioning are therefore particularly important.
Volleys decide
Many points are decided near the net. Quick hands and controlled volleys are therefore particularly valuable.
The Kitchen
The kitchen is the zone directly at the net where volleys are only allowed to a limited extent. Those who master this area tactically often control the point.
Pickleball in one sentence
Pickleball feels like chess on a court of approximately 6.10 × 13.41 meters: whoever builds patiently and recognizes the right moment wins.
The right equipment
For beginners, you don't need an expensive complete set. A good paddle, a ball, and suitable shoes are enough. Nevertheless, you should choose your equipment carefully.
No running shoes
Running shoes are built for straight movements and often offer too little stability for lateral changes of direction.
Suitable paddle
A paddle that is too heavy can make reactions at the net more difficult. A light and balanced model is suitable for many beginners.
Light clothing
Breathable sportswear ensures that you can move freely and comfortably even during fast rallies.
You can find suitable indoor or outdoor shoes in our shoe assortment. The right model depends on whether you primarily play indoors or outdoors.
Clever instead of powerful
If you want to improve in Pickleball, you shouldn't hit every ball as hard as possible. Intelligent game construction is often more successful.
Tips for your Pickleball game
